Severin Films has produced several featurettes for new UK Special Editions of breakthrough New York junkie love story The Panic In Needle Park starring a young Al Pacino, Paul Greengrass‘ controversial Resurrected starring David Thewlis and the underrated Alan Bleasdale scripted No Surrender. For Panic, director Jerry Schatzberg and Cinematographer Adam Holender give a revealing account of shooting on the mean streets of New York in the early 70s with the then-unknown Pacino. In a separate piece, the legendary Joan Didion talks about co-writing her first movie with her husband and how the results surpassed her expectations and launched their careers. Award-winning Hollywood A-list director Paul Greengrass goes right back to his roots to discuss his fist narrative feature Resurrected. The Falklands War story was based on the true events of a soldier who returns home after being pronounced dead and the sensation seeking British tabloid press changing their angle from hero to deserter. David Thewlis also went on record to talk about his first starring role. And on No Surrender, director Peter Smith and producer Mamoun Hassan discuss the difficulties of mounting a feature film production in the UK in the 80s, even one written by iconic Liverpudlian scribe Alan Bleasdale(“The Boys From The Black Stuff”).
Excerpts from the featurettes can be seen below. No Surrender and Resurrected were released last week while The Panic In Needle Park streets on September 5th, all available from amazon.co.uk.
