Your friends at Severin have been hard at work these past weeks coordinating the mass media assault of the cult comedy ages, all in commemoration and anticipation of today’s release of SNUFF BOX.

For the uninitiated, Snuff Box is the legendarily outrageous British sketch comedy show that was too untamed for television – even British television, where you can say things like “#($!” and “@!($*)*@cker” with naked aplomb, sometimes in the nude.

Last week, we imported Snuff Box avatars Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher to Los Angeles for a whirlwind weekend of Snuffian activity. After passing through customs by the skin of their teeth, Berry and Fulcher began cutting a swath through all available media, beginning with a rash of Podcasts that included Dangerous Minds, Pop My Culture, and several more.

Saturday brought two tentpole events; the DVD’s formal unfurling for a signing at Amoeba Records and a screening at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater.

Berry and Fulcher’s descent into Amoeba’s audiovisually saturated environs was treated as no less than a Royal visit – maybe even a Papal descent. The line of Snuff-hungry patrons stretched throughout the store like a ravenous python; one hungry to press flesh with two bonafide British Comedy Heroes. Many pictures were taken, and Sharpies drained, as the smiling fans trickled out of Amoeba’s exit.

The main thrust of the evening was most definitely the sold-out Snuff Box screening – the first in the United States – at the UCB Theater. A raucous pre-screening Q&A featured Berry and Fulcher in fine form, and the crowd was well-prepped for what amounted to Snuff Box’s United States Premiere.

Sunday morning meant more Podcasts, and the filming of a well-situated Snuff Box reunion spot for Funny or Die. Berry and Fulcher stomped, paraded and puked their way to online glory in less than an hour, creating a new spot that hit FOD’s front page Monday morning.

But undoubtedly the highlight of the entire visit was the marquee Snuff Spectacle – the beyond sold-out EVENING WITH SNUFF BOX at L.A.’s Cinefamily. This multimedia smorgasbord was designed like an Apollo rocket; to go off in a series of ever-more powerful stages.

Alterna-Comedy mavens Rob Schrab and Steve Agee proved more than fantastically fantastic hosts as they welcomed Berry and Fulcher to Cinefamily’s whiskey-soaked stage. The two world-class Professors of Snuff adroitly steered Berry and Fulcher through a clip-peppered retrospective of Snuff Box and their subsequent appearances on U.S. television.

The overly-exuberant audience managed to die down long enough to allow Cinefamily to show a complete episode of Snuff Box (Episode 2), then were treated to a special surprise – the first ever live performance of Snuff Box in America!

As the Severin All-Star Backing Band pounded away, Matt Berry pummeled a rented Moog Explorer into analog dust, sending the crowd into spasms of ecstasy with his iconic composition The Empty Room. Then Rich Fulcher donned a borrowed Baby Bjorn to bring down the house with a scorching performance of Rapper with a Baby, the likes of which hadn’t been seen in Los Angeles since the dawn of N.W.A. those many years ago.

Many questions and some answers followed, then all that was left was for Berry to lay a benediction on the house with a stirring solo acoustic version (in C, no less) of the Snuff Box Theme.

The duo then high-tailed it to Toronto where they lorded over several sold-out signings and super-polite comedy club events and interviews.

Berry had to break back to the U.K. to begin a role in a rather large upcoming feature, so Fulcher winged solo to New York for several more appearances leading up to today’s much-anticipated street date. Rich hit the How Was Your Week podcast, then met with segment producers to prepare for the biggest Snuff exposure to date – a spot on LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON.

A seasoned talk-show performer, Fulcher did not disappoint as he steamrolled the NBC studio, talking all things Boosh and Snuff. Snuff Fan Fallon was more than welcoming, showing two of Rich’s most famous skits; Rapper with a Baby and First Date. National television is always exciting, especially when Severin DVDs are being hoisted on-camera.

Today of course finally brings Snuff Box’s U.S. release date, with Fulcher still pounding the pavement in Manhattan for several interviews and appearances, including a signing at Kim’s Video and a very special screening at the UCB East (tonight at 11:30 P.M.)

All in all, it’s been an awe-inspiring slew of appearances…albeit a slew for an even more awe-inspiring show.
